Cross Country practise

Every day of school apart from Friday the Kahikatea Syndicate does cross country practise. We line up in age groups at the front concrete. First we do stretches. Choi in Rm 6 blows the whistle and the first group goes. They start running around the block, then the next group goes and so on. When we get back from running we walk round the front concrete area two times. Then to warm down we do some more stretches then go to morning tea. By the time we've finished our cross country practise we'll be alot fitter for the big cross country race!

The storm

On Wednesday afternoon we were finishing watching a dvd in our classroom when we heard over our speaker system that a storm was creating havoc in our area.

The storm was over large areas of New Zealand with serious flooding and gale force winds in different places.

In our immediate area trees were uprooted and branches dropping all over the roads and in the playground.

Our parents had to pick us up from the classroom and even then some people were blown off there feet!

When we got home many of us found that there was no power and that trees, trampoulines and fences had blown down or away. Houses in other parts of the city also lost their rooves and roads were blocked by trees and slips.

Today we looked at the damage around the area and took some pictures.

Term 1 fun

In Term one we looked at what our school means to us. At the end of the term we took photos around the school that showed what school means to us. We also made words that described what school means and added them. We are pleased with the result.

Wilbur and Inquiry Learning for Term 2

We have been looking at our Inquiry work for next term under our theme Local Global and Connected. In Term 1 we looked more closely at our school and what it meant to us. In Term 2 our focus will widen and look at our connections with other places around NZ and the world.
With Dr Potaka going overseas during Term 2 we have taken the opportunity to send our Room 3 mascot or ambassador, Wilbur, with him to schools in other countries so we can establish contact with other children overseas.
Before we gave him to Dr Potaka we took some photos of Wilbur around our school – in the adventure playground, watching children playing, resting against the lime trees at the front of the school, and in the classroom. You can meet Wilbur and
follow Wilbur’s travels and adventures by visiting Wilbur’s blog. Click on the link at the side of our classroom blog. Don’t forget to leave a comment!

Music 2008

Every Thursday we do music with Bridget. We learn, fast, slow, loud, soft, rhythm and tempo. The class sometimes gets to write our own music. Bridget splits us into groups and the groups play different types of music. When we come to music, Bridget is always playing some type of music from around the world. We get to make and play instruments. I like the time that we have with Bridget at music.

Welcome to 2008

Hi everyone. Welcome to Room 3 2008.
This year the class has 27 students, 22 year 4 children and 5 year 3 children.
We have spent the last few weeks establishing our classroom routines and are now raring to go!
Our blog will be updated regularly with children's work, photos and reports of intersting happenings around school, so keep visiting our blog and remember we appreciate comments!

Da Vinci Exhibition

Last Tuesday we went to the Da Vinci exhibition at the Museum. When we got there we went into a room and Impgen talked to us about Da Vinci and the machines he had invented and how they worked. Then she sent us into a bigger room to look at the exhibits. We had different activities to do with the parents who were there. We learnt about how he used levers, cogs, ratchets and wheels in his machines.
